Resumo:
Acne is a highly common skin condition, it is estimated that 9.4% of the world's population is at some point affected by the disease. However, due to the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) the prolonged use of face masks has caused an increase in the appearance of acne. Among the treatment options are the appropriate care for each skin type, topical and systemic antimicrobial drugs, hormonal treatment and application of acids, but the pharmaceutical cosmetics industry has brought to the fore a market movement products free of harmful substances that are classified as Clean Beauty, which is translated as clean beauty, without aggressive additives to the consumer and the environment. In this context, this work presents the possibility of joining natural actives, such as nisin, a peptide produced from the fermentation of lactic acid bacteria; and mandelic acid, a product derived from the extraction of active components from almonds; to a bacterial cellulose membrane, produced by fermentation of Gluconacetobacter xylinus bacteria. The bacterial cellulose was produced and used as a carrier system for the actives. After purification of the bacterial cellulose, the active ingredients Nisin and Mandelic Acid were incorporated for analysis. It was observed that nisin and mandelic acid presented synergistic antimicrobial activity and antioxidant activity and were potentiated when incorporated in the bacterial cellulose in relation to the isolated solutions. The in vitro release of the actives proved to be stable within the required parameters, as well as the physico-mechanical analyses. With this study, it is expected to develop an innovative product that uses natural alternatives in order to satisfy the concept of cosmetics free of environmental contaminants for the treatment of acne disease.
